Status: Part-time (~20 hours/week, exempt)
Salary:  $20,000-$22,000 (DOE)

The Mission of FUMCB Youth Ministry is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world as we work with emerging leaders.

Position Overview 

The Church Youth Director is briefed to therefore lead a Christ-centered youth ministry (grades 7-12/ages 12-18) to shape disciples who love Jesus, serve others, and transform the world. This role fosters an open, safe, servant community emphasizing intergenerational engagement, inclusivity across all differences, and holistic growth.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Discipleship Formation: Select curriculum and facilitate Bible study, prayer sessions, small groups, confirmation classes, retreats, music, and worship to nurture active faith, generosity, servanthood, and witness. 

Participation in Community Building: Initiate the creation of inclusive gatherings (fun events like games/bowling, youth Sundays) that celebrate diversity in race, language, economics, gender, and family structures.

Peace, Justice & Service: Coordinate servant projects to embody God's peace and justice. 

(e.g. through MLK Day, Mardi Gras, community service, and church roles such as tech, ushering, performing arts and talents nurturing, and leadership opportunities).

Promote Intergenerational Integration: Activate youth participation in whole-church worship, study, service, and justice. Empower youth as leaders in youth ministry and the life of the whole church. 

Program Management: Plan safe, fun, engaging activities; recruit/train volunteers and develop them as leaders; track participation and growth; maintain annual budget; manage fundraising ventures; conduct and implement Safe Sanctuaries training. 

Pastoral Care Liaison : Coordinate for safe space for doubts/questions, psychosocial wellness support and relationships in connection with parents, families, and pastoral team.

Principal Qualifications:

  1. Passion for youth discipleship aligned with United Methodist mission.

  2. Bachelor’s or advanced degree, preferably in related field. 

  3. Experience in youth ministry, education, or community building.

  4. Skills in program planning, relational leadership, and inclusivity.

  5. Commitment to safe, trauma-informed environments.

  6. Background check required, theological alignment with United Methodist Church.
